LARGE PRINT
What is large print ?
Large print books are defined by their characteristics
and are designed to make reading easier for individuals with print impairments.
Some of the key characteristics
that typically define a large print book
Larger Font style
These books are usually printed with high contrast between the text and the background, typically black text on a white or cream coloured page, to reduce eye strain and improve clarity.
High contrast
The most distinguishing feature of large print books is the increased font size. The text in large print books is usually set in a font size ranging from 16 to 18 points or larger. In contrast, standard print books typically use a font size of 10 to 12 points.
Simple font style
The font style used in large print books tends to be simple and sans-serif (like Arial or Helvetica) because these fonts are generally easier to read than more decorative or serif fonts.
Why are large print books important?
By publishing large print titles, you're not just expanding your potential readership but also making a significant contribution to social inclusion and accessibility.
